GetGroupByValue Method

Returns the value that will be used to initialize a UltraGridGroupByRow
Syntax
'Declaration

Function GetGroupByValue( _
   ByVal groupByRow As UltraGridGroupByRow, _
   ByVal row As UltraGridRow _
) As Object
object GetGroupByValue(
   UltraGridGroupByRow groupByRow,
   UltraGridRow row
)

Parameters

groupByRow
The new group by row.
row
The first row to be included in a new group by row.

Return Value

The value to use as the new group by row's UltraGridGroupByRow.Value.
Remarks

In order to keep the default value use the following code:

            public object GetGroupByValue( UltraGridGroupByRow groupByRow, UltraGridRow row )
            {
                return groupByRow.Value;
            }

Example
Following code shows you how to group rows with a custom group-by code. It groups rows by the first two characters of the company name field. It implements IGroupByEvaluator interface and assigns an instance of it to the GroupByEvaluator property of ContactName column and then groups rows by it.

Imports Infragistics.Win
Imports Infragistics.Win.UltraWinGrid

      Implements Infragistics.Win.UltraWinGrid.IGroupByEvaluator

          Dim val As String

          ' Get the default value from the groupbyRow.
          If groupbyRow.Value Is Nothing Then
              val = ""
          Else
              val = groupbyRow.Value.ToString()
          End If

          ' If it is longer than 2 characters truncate it.
          If val.Length > 2 Then
              val = val.Substring(0, 2)
          End If

          ' Convert the string to uppercase for display in the group-by row's description.
          Return val.ToUpper()

      End Function

          ' Do a case insensitive compare.
