The DataPresenter controls allow your end users to double click a field’s resizing indicator to resize the field to fit its contents. You can also replicate this same functionality by handling an event and calling a Field object’s PerformAutoSize method or by executing the AutoSizeField command exposed by the DataPresenterCommands class.
The parameter-less version of the PerformAutoSize method will take the FieldSettings object’s AutoSizeOptions and AutoSizeScope properties into account. Therefore, if you disable auto-sizing on a field, calling the parameter-less version of the PerformAutoSize method will not affect the field. However, the PerformAutoSize method has an overload that allows you to pass in AutoSizeOptions and AutoSizeScope enum values to auto-size a field regardless of the field’s auto-sizing settings.
The AutoSizeField command requires you to pass in a Field object as a parameter. If the field does not allow auto-sizing, the AutoSizeField command will not execute.
The following example code demonstrates how to perform an auto-sizing operation. The example code uses the active Cell object’s Field property to call the PerformAutoSize method and to execute the AutoSizeField command.
